CREW MEMBER FOR DENIZENS OF THE DEEP

Michele Hall - co-producer: A 19-year veteran of pediatric nursing, Michele joined our tiny family business in 1991. She has produced numerous natural history television films as well as the IMAX feature ISLAND OF THE SHARKS. Michele is also a widely published still photographer.

Bob Cranston - cameraman: Bob has been with me since I began producing my own underwater films. In addition to being second cameraman on essentially all my films, Bob has been director of underwater photography on many television productions as well as the IMAX feature OCEAN OASIS.

Mark Thurlow - technical diving supervisor: A rebreather guru and co-author of a book on rebreather technology, Mark’s diving skills are extraordinary. He has worked on many of our films including all our IMAX productions. Mark also is an accomplished videographer whose footage was used to create the “Making of” episodes for both ISLAND OF THE SHARKS and CORAL REEF ADVENTURE.

Peter Kragh - underwater assistant cameraman, time lapse cameraman: One of the smartest and strongest divers I have ever worked with, Peter was dive master aboard the Undersea Hunter when we made ISLAND OF THE SHARKS. He was such a valuable asset even in this unofficial crew member role that we hired him as regular crew for CORAL REEF ADVENTURE. He is an accomplished still photographer and capable technical diver.

Dave Forsyth - underwater assistant, electronics engineer: Dave joined our underwater crew during the making of CORAL REEF ADVENTURE. He was part of the team of deep divers that included Bob Cranston, Mark Thurlow, Richard Pyle, and me who made a series of trimix deep dives below 350 feet carrying two IMAX camera systems. Dave also designs and builds the electronics for our closed-circuit rebreathers, including designing and printing the circuit boards and programming the chips.

John Dunham - underwater assistant, launch and recovery: This project marks a change of rolls for John. My long-time hang gliding and ultralight flying buddy, John has supervised the logistics for capturing aerial footage from ultralight aircraft for three of our films. He consulted in the design and construction of the ultralight that we used to film aerials of Cocos Island for ISLAND OF THE SHARKS. We later used the same aircraft for aerial filming for CORAL REEF ADVENTURE and SHARK MOUNTAIN (a television episode of the PBS series Nature). Professional diving was new to John prior to DENIZENS. To prepare, he spent two weeks with Michele, Mark Thurlow, and me in Belize during the production of a high definition film for Tokyo Broadcasting Systems.

Richard Hermann - underwater assistant, launch and recovery: Richard is the newest member of our underwater crew. Although we’ve been friends for many years, this is the first opportunity we’ve had to work together. Richard has worked as a marine biologist and is a well-published wildlife photographer.

Stuart MacFarlane - IMAX camera technician and camera assistant: Stuart is considered the most knowledgeable independent IMAX 3D camera technician in the business. Once employed by IMAX Corporation, he was involved in the development of the IMAX 3D Solido camera. He was with us during the filming of INTO THE DEEP and has worked on many IMAX 3D, 2D, and 35mm features since. When Michele called him to ask that he join this production, he answered his cell phone with his thick Scottish accent while sipping coffee in a café in Kuala Lumpur, at 1am. When asked where he lives today, he just shrugged.

Mike Hintermeister - IMAX camera technician and camera assistant: A full-time employee of IMAX Corporation, Mike managed to escape his day job for a bit of field adventure. His current knowledge of the IMAX 3D system is especially valuable since he is in IMAX’s Camera Department full-time and he was instrumental in making sure the camera was properly prepped and modified for our DENIZENS’ project.

Toni Myers - co-producer: Toni has worked at Imax corporation for many years and has been intimately involved in the production of all IMAX Space films including THE DREAM IS ALIVE and mostly recently SPACE STATION 3D which was voted best film by the Giant Screen Theater Association in 2002.

Graeme Ferguson - executive producer: One of the four founders of IMAX and creator of the IMAX format, Graeme is simply the godfather of IMAX. He has produced and directed dozens of IMAX films during his long career and was my producer for INTO THE DEEP. Officially retired in 2000, Graeme agreed to come out of retirement to provide his invaluable guidance during the making of DENIZENS.

Judy Carroll - associate producer: A long time employee of IMAX, Judy has been associate producer on many IMAX productions including all of the IMAX space films and was our associate producer during the making of INTO THE DEEP.
