DEEP SEA 3D
Opened in 45 IMAX 3D theaters March 3, 2006

Our latest IMAX feature DEEP SEA 3D opened in March 2006. After more than two years of production and after filming in nine locations the film opened in 45 IMAX theaters worldwide and in the first twelve months of release has more than doubled Warner Brothers’ most optimistic estimate for box office receipts.

Postproduction came together almost flawlessly under the supervision of Toni Myers. Our two narrators, Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet were recorded on two different days in Los Angeles. Both actors turned in fine performances. Kate Winslet sounds like a female version of David Attenborough. Johnny Depp seemed to enjoy his read noting a special kinship to our mantis shrimp sequence. Seems he had learned about the shrimp by sticking his hand in a mantis shrimp den with unfortunate but memorable results.

The music was written and composed by Danny Elfman and Deborah Lurie. Elfman has written numerous Hollywood scores including Batman, Spiderman II, and Mission Impossible. He has also written the music for several of Tim Burton’s often dark films including the recent Corpse Bride. Despite DEEP SEA 3D being a comparatively minor film, Elfman’s music score, with the assistance of Debbie Lurie, is absolutely fantastic and worthy of the largest Hollywood budget.
Sound effects and mix were supervised by Peter Thillaye who performed the same function on INTO THE DEEP more than a decade ago. The narration was written mostly by Howard Hall with considerable help from Toni Myers, Graeme Ferguson, and valuable input from Producer Michele Hall.
