In 2000 Howard Hall Productions collaborated with MacGillivray Freeman Films during the production of Coral Reef Adventure. One of ten giant format (IMAX®) adventure films to be produced by MFF, Coral Reef Adventure is a celebration of the beauty and majesty of tropical Pacific coral reefs.

The film was photographed during five expeditions; three to the Fiji Islands, one to French Polynesia, and one to the Great Barrier Reef. In September 2000, the M/V Undersea Hunter left its home port in Costa Rica and made the crossing to Fiji where it met our production crew for the first of the three Fiji Island expeditions. While working in Fiji, Rob Barrel and Cat Holloway of Naia Cruises provided guidance and logistical coordination for the production crew. Naia also provided additional liveaboard accommodations for members of the film crew.

Coral Reef Adventure was produced by Greg MacGillivray and Alec Lorimore, directed by Greg MacGillivray, and filmed by Greg MacGillivray, Howard Hall, Bob Cranston, and Brad Ohlund. Michele Hall was line producer and Howard was underwater sequence director. Howard and Michele also appear on-camera in the film as they explore and film Pacific coral reefs and their wildlife.

Coral Reef Adventure was released in February 2003 and is now showing in Imax theaters worldwide.
